About this place
Open the menu and you will spot telltale signs of genuinely fresh seafood alongside standard izakaya staples. Set in a residential pocket of Kanamachi, Tokkuri has built a loyal following around dishes like house-cured, butterflied horse mackerel, prepared from large aji caught by the owner, as well as seasonal sashimi. Crisp deep-fried aji fry and raw tuna tossed with fermented soybeans provide satisfying bites that give fish lovers plenty to start with.
A major draw of the kitchen is how easily it moves beyond the sea. Hearty pub comforts such as slow-simmered motsu nikomi (braised beef offal) and saucy yakisoba share space with Western touches, from fluffy folded omelets to avocado salad drizzled with a brisk sour plum dressing. Seasonal side plates also make an appearance, including morning-picked edamame sourced from a nearby farm, making it easy to tailor a meal to the mood of the evening.
The drink selection keeps pace with the wide-ranging fare, offering beer alongside shochu labels such as Akakirishima, as well as sparkling wines available in sweet or off-dry styles. With a warm Showa-era atmosphere, the dining room is arranged with counter seating and tables, feeling just as welcoming for a solo drink after work as it does for friends and families gathering for dinner.
